A Kiss That Could Kill
~ Lyndsey S.

This is a story,
Of a guy and his girlfriend
A true story that is…
Of sadness and no mend

He loved her endlessly
She felt the same way
Their feelings for one another
Were very surreal I must say

His face lit up
whenever he saw her
Those deep blue eyes
Were truly to die for

Her face lit up
Whenever he was near
The warmth from his embrace
Truly showed that he cared <
The two were compatible
Her eyes, his embrace
Together were inseparable
Neither one could be replaced

. . . Such young teens,
They’ve been dating for a year
. . . Falling in love,
Their anniversary was near

Their day had come,
They couldn’t wait to be together
Couldn’t wait to hug and to hold...
...And to passionately kiss each other

“I’ve brought you a present”
The guy said to his girl
“Oh really! What is it?”
She said in that cute little voice of hers

“But before I do that,” he said
“I must give you my kiss.
Our anniversary today...
Shall start off like this.”

Hands around her neck,
He drew her to his lips
He planted that one kiss...
...that dreadful, one unlucky kiss.

She pulled back, started panicking
Hands flew to her throat
“Babe, what’s the matter?” he asked
But all she could do was choke

“Please don’t play around,
Hunny, please no more,”
But little did he know
It was from the sandwich he ate hours before

Her throat was swelling
She couldn’t breathe
He grasped her tightly
As she began to heave

“What did you eat? she asked,
What did you do?
Promise me it wasn’t peanut butter...
Please... I’m begging you”

His heart rapidly pounding
So loud he heard it
Because right then it had hit him...
...She was deathly allergic

“No, please no!
We’re destined by fate!
Please, hun please...
It can’t be too late”

To call for an ambulance,
He reached for the phone
He nervously dialed 911
As she let out a piercing moan

It was the end, she was dying
right there on the floor
Her boyfriend sat crying
Awaiting a knock at the door

He held her so close
Closer then ever before
He whispered he loved her
Feelings he could not ignore

She gazed up at him
With her deep blue eyes
And with one last breath she whispered,
“I love you, please don’t cry.”

He screamed in fear,
She had died in his lap
There was nothing he could do
It was it, that was that.

“I should have known babe,”
He said sobbing, stroking her hair
“I should have known, I’m sorry,
No words can repair.”

Over his girl’s dead body,
He sat weeping with fear
Today wasn’t supposed to happen like this
Not on the anniversary of one year

“I don’t understand,” he said
“It’s like I’m a deadly pill...
Because I never knew, I never heard...
...Of a kiss that could kill."
