Taking A Chance
~ Joe Hanus
A roll of my heart, spinning, bouncing apart now coming to rest .
Did I pass the test?
Am I blessed?
What’s he outcome of my quest?
I won’t settle for second best.
I have set the wheel of love spinning
It looked good at the beginning
but then my fortunes started thinning.
But then I saw her grinning
and I knew that I was winning.
The table was green so my cards could not be seen
My assets were lean and I so needed a queen.
I tried to hide my blush.
Could I fill out this flush?
She said,”There’s no rush.”
The room filled with a hush.
The red king lie steady, the pale Jack was ready.
The spot on the ace was in the right place,
A big red ten, a one and an ought
filled the nest of cards I sought.
The one thing not seen was the missing red queen.
Action was furious, but I was not curious
I tried not to sweat as I raised the bet
I peeked at my hole card and arose with a start
For into my life came the queen with a heart!
