The Fallen Leaves
~Rob
Through the winter forest, the oak leaves lie around
Ankle deep in places, carpeting the ground.
How sad, how dead they are, lying crisp and brown
Like broken hearts of romances whose dreams came tumbling down.
And as I look around me, and view the forest floor
I realise I love you and will for evermore.
For our love is so romantic, it is my strong belief
It cannot possibly compare with a brown and fallen leaf.
And as I raise my weary eyes and gaze up to the sky
I wish that you were with me, to banish any sigh
And I know with certainty, as I view the trunks so strong,
Our love is like the mighty oaks and lives the whole year long.
Our love may lose a leaf or two on a cold December day
Or when the wind of argument blows a few away.
But through it all our joyous love develops roots so deep
And caring for each other means our love will never sleep.
So from a little acorn that day when first we spoke
Has sprung a giant tree of love, outgrowing any oak.
And in the future, darling, I do so hope and pray
We’ll have our own sweet forest in which our children play.
